Beers

Beer is one of the oldest and most widely consumed alcoholic drinks in the world, and the third most popular drink overall after water and tea.

Beer is brewed from cereal grains — most commonly from malted barley, though wheat, maize (corn), and rice are also used.

During the brewing process, fermentation of the starch sugars in the wort produces ethanol and carbonation in the resulting beer.

Most modern beer is brewed with hops, which add bitterness and other flavours and act as a natural preservative and stabilizing agent.

Rebellion IPA

ABV: 3.7%

A copper coloured, easy drinking beer. Well balanced malt and hop flavours continue to a long, refreshing and clean finish.

Ingredients:-

  • 92% Maris Otter pale ale malt, plus crystal & chocolate malts in the mash tun.
  • English Fuggles & Goldings hops in the copper.
  • Late addition Styrian Goldings in the hop-back for aroma.

Kona Brewing Company Big Wave Golden Ale

ABV: 4.4%

Big Wave is a lighter-bodied golden ale with a tropical hop aroma and flavor—smooth, easy drinking, and refreshing. The use of caramel malt contributes to the golden hue of this beer, and our special blend of hops provides a bright, quenching finish that makes it a struggle to not grab another one.

St Austell Proper Job

ABV: 4.5%

A powerfully authentic IPA, Proper Job is brewed with a blend of imported American hops. It is a real treat of a beer with a growing reputation and is loved by beer enthusiasts far and wide. Perhaps the forerunner of all modern IPAs in the UK!

Proper Job regularly wins awards, both from within the brewing industry and also at CAMRA Beer Festivals. The awards include the prestigious 'Champion Bottle Beer' at 'CBoB' and 'Champion Premium Best Bitter' at the 'SIBA National Beer Festival'.

An award-winning modern IPA, packed full of citrus, pineapple and grapefruit resinous flavours with a fine crisp bitter finish.

Wines

Wine is an alcoholic beverage made from grapes,  fermented without the addition of sugars, acids, enzymes, water, or other nutrients.

Yeast converts the sugars in the grapes to alcohol and carbon dioxide, during the fermentation process.

There are many varieties of grapes and strains of yeasts that produce different types of wine.

Wine has been produced for thousands of years.

Throughout history, wine has been consumed for its intoxicating effects.

Spirits

A distilled spirit is an alcoholic drink produced by distillation of grains, fruit, or vegetables that have already gone through alcoholic fermentation.

The distillation process purifies the liquid and removes diluting components like water, for the purpose of increasing its proportion of alcohol content

Beer, wines and ciders are fermented but not distilled and therefore have a relatively lower alcoholic contentcompared to a spirit.

Brandy is a spirit produced by the distillation of wine, and has an ABV of over 35%.

Other examples of distilled beverages include vodka, gin, rum, tequila and whisky.

Lagers

Lager is a type of beer that originates from the Czech Republic. It is conditioned at low temperatures, normally at the brewery.

It may be pale, golden, amber, or dark. Worldwide, pale lager is the most widely consumed and commercially available style of beer. It is often known primarily by its brand name, and labeled simply as "beer".

Beck's Vier

ABV: 4%

Brewed under the German purity law of 1516 with only 4 natural ingredients: barley, hops, yeast and water

Beck's Vier is a German-style pilsner lager with a smooth taste and a crisp finish.

At 4% alcohol content, Beck's Vier is lower in alcohol that Beck's Original (4.7% ABV).

Stella Artois

ABV: 4%

Stella Artois is a Belgian pilsner lager of between 4.8 and 5.2% ABV which was first brewed by Brouwerij Artois (the Artois Brewery) in Leuven, Belgium, in 1926.

Since 2008, a 4% ABV version is also sold in Britain.

Gins

Gin is spirit which derives its predominant flavour from juniper berries (Juniperus communis). Gin is one of the broadest categories of spirits, all of various origins, styles, and flavour profiles that revolve around juniper as a common ingredient.

From its earliest origins in the Middle Ages, the drink has evolved from a herbal medicine to an object of commerce in the spirits industry. Gin was developed based on an older Dutch spirit, jenever, and became popular in Great Britain (particularly in London) when William of Orange occupied the English, Scottish, and Irish thrones with his wife Mary between 1689 and 1702.

Brecon Gin

This is a fine quality distilled gin using botanicals from the four corners of the world and bottled at Penderyn Distillery using natural spring water from the Brecon Beacons National Park.

TASTING NOTES

Taken neat, Brecon Gin is a big traditional juniper, laced with coriander and revealing hints of spicy cinnamon. Add a mixer and the citrus freshness of oranges and lemons appear with nutmeg, liquorice and angelica in a supporting role. 

The characteristic flavours go well with tonic, ice and lemon on a warm summer’s day but Brecon’s traditional heritage is equally at home besides a roaring fire on a cold night and will bring back memories of long hot summers past.

Bathtub Gin

"At Ableforth's, we’re very particular about how we make our award-winning Bathtub Gin.

Copper pot-distilled gin is first made with juniper, coriander and other fragrant botanicals.  We take a portion of this gin and painstakingly infuse it with a further six botanicals, capturing the vibrant flavours of orange peel, cassia, juniper, coriander, cardamom and clove.

This infusion is meticulously blended back into the gin, giving Bathtub its unique character, allowing those fresh botanical flavours – too delicate to survive traditional distillation – to shine through, and leaving our gin with its distinctive botanical hue. It’s only finished once wrapped, strung and waxed by hand, ready to deliver unparalleled fresh flavour to your G&Ts and cocktails."

Bombay Sapphire

Made from neutral grain spirit to a 1761 recipe, with a blend of ten carefully selected botanical ingredients, including almonds, angelica, lemon peel, coriander, liquorice, cassia bark and juniper.

Stouts

Stout is a dark beer made using roasted malt or roasted barley, hops, water and yeast.

Stouts were traditionally the generic term for the strongest or stoutest porters, typically 7% or 8% alcohol by volume (ABV), produced by a brewery.

There are a number of variations including Baltic porter, milk stout, and imperial stout; the most common variation is dry stout, exemplified by Guinness Draught, the world's best selling stout.

Ciders

Cider  is an alcoholic drink made from the fermented juice of apples.

Cider is popular in the United Kingdom, especially in the West Country, and widely available. The UK has the world's highest per capita consumption, as well as its largest cider-producing companies.

The juice of any variety of apple can be used to make cider, but cider apples are best.

The addition of sugar or extra fruit before a second fermentation increases the ethanol content of the resulting beverage.

Cider alcohol content varies from 1.2% to 8.5% ABV or more in traditional English ciders, and 3.5% to 12% in continental ciders.

In UK law, it must contain at least 35% apple juice, although CAMRA (the Campaign for Real Ale) says that "real cider" must be at least 90% fresh apple juice.
